Where there's a will, there's a way!
One of my co-workers wanted a rainbow dragonfly snowflake just like what I showed in the photos accompanying my first Dragonfly Snowflake. I devised an easy snowflakes to which the rainbow-hued dragonfly motifs could be joined, which I shared last week. Deep down inside, I knew there had to be a way to join the dragonfly motifs without making a snowflake in the middle.
Took me a few tries to get an untwisted model, but I finally got it right!
The dragonflies and Dragonfly Snowflakes (all three varieties) were among my biggest sellers this year at my annual craft fair, and now many members of my family want a Dragonfly Snowflake of their own. Some even want team colors... So I'm not done with dragonflies just yet. Good thing they're relatively fast!
You may do whatever you'd like with dragonflies and snowflakes you make from this pattern, but you may not sell or republish the pattern. Thanks, and enjoy!

Finish: Beads may be added to dragonfly heads as eyes if desired. Tape wax paper or plastic wrap to top of empty pizza box. Pin snowflake to box on top of wax paper or plastic wrap.
If using glue, mix a few drops of water with a teaspoon of glue in small washable container. Paint snowflake with glue mixture or desired stiffener. Sprinkle lightly with glitter. Wash paintbrush and container thoroughly. Allow snowflake to dry at least 24 hours. Remove pins. Gently peel snowflake from wax paper or plastic wrap. Attach 10-inch clear thread to one spoke, weaving in end. Wrap fishing line around tree branch (or tape to ceiling or any overhead surface) and watch snowflake twirl freely whenever you walk by! Snowflake also may be taped to window or tied to doorknob or cabinet handle.
When you have something all like, in the orders come haha Good they take little time to make so all can partake.
ReplyDeleteHi Deborah, I'm a bit late to crocheted snowflakes but have really enjoyed your patterns. Love these little dragon flies but I am having trouble with wings/head part, in fact I think my mistake comes at the 2 sc at the top of the body. When I follow as I read I get the impression I should have turned somewhere, so wings seem upside down to each other and I can't do the second dc for the head. Any suggestions for a crochet dummy? Thanks for any input, Josie
ReplyDeleteHi, Josie. Thank you, and welcome! I will try to work up a photo tutorial and add it here. It’s been a while since I’ve made one, and I’m having trouble working through it in my head without a crochet hook. Getting old... another option might be to ask in Sisters of the Snowflake on Facebook. There are a great group of crocheters who try to help when I can’t put the time into it I’d like to.
DeleteIs there a way to get a written pattern that uses pony beads in the tail on the dragon fly please. This would be really appreciated.i would like to make that way for mental health patients and sensory for children.
ReplyDeleteHi, Minnie. I don't have a written pattern for pony beads in the tail on the dragon, but I would think you could string the number of beads needed (maybe half the number of stitches in the tail) before you begin the dragonfly, and then pull up one bead every other stitch. I googled "pony bead dragonfly" and saw there are a number of patterns, although they look to be visual diagrams and video, nothing written. If that would help, try looking here: https://www.google.com/search?q=pony+bead+dragonfly&sca_esv= (You will have to copy the link and paste; links don't seem to work in comments. Or just go to google and search for "pony bead dragonfly".) I really admire what you are trying to accomplish!
