Fifteen years ago today (except it was a Saturday that year), I took a deep breath, started my car, and drove to Arches National Park visitor center, where I would be meeting Lizard for our first date. I took another deep breath when I saw his truck pull into the parking lot, realizing this was real, and I was about to make a total fool of myself, pedaling like a turtle all the way up to Delicate Arch with this speedy cyclist extraordinaire. Oh, was I nervous!
He never laughed at me. He never made fun of my slow pace. He didn't pedal swiftly away when I told him I'd adopted two older special needs kids. And he didn't leave me in the dust when I told him I'm a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Instead, he stuck with me, through thick and thin, slow bikes, broken derailleurs, rebellious kids, back pain, neck pain, elbow pain, 4Runner clutches, sunrises, sunsets, 14ers, mountain passes, quilts, snowflakes, gardens, bird feeders and bird houses, cameras, more cameras, and even more cameras. More external hard-drives than bookshelves. The lousiest internet on the planet. And the most exciting red rock adventures a girl could wish for!
I love you, Lizard! Now and forever!
Congratulations to the both of you! Both of you are an inspiration! Hope you continue to peddle together for decades more!
