When I brought my amaryllis bulbs up from the basement at the end of November (after leaving them down there for only one month), I wondered what would bloom first: the amaryllises or the hyacinths I'd bought back in late summer or early fall.
Many of my friends said they thought the hyacinths would speak first. I'm not so sure they've found their voices yet, but one amaryllis is preparing to sing!
