Snowflake Monday

I hope I am done with pinks in my 2023 crochet temperature project. Not only because I don't like the pinks as much as the blues, greens and purples in this project, but also because I am so done with summer heat!!!

(Lizard just reminded me how much I love fireweed and cosmos and suggested I think of the pink as high altitude and August wildflowers instead of 90-plus degrees in the Denver metro area; I think he's onto something!)

Nevertheless, the project is turning out beautiful. I still don't know what it will be at the end of December; it will be nearly twice the size it is now. It probably would serve best as a shawl or light lap covering. But sometimes I look at it, though, and wonder if it wouldn't make a cute skirt covering...

I still have four months to decide. And four more snowflakes to be inspired by the motif I used in this project.

Today's snowflake has an additional inspiration. Months ago, I gave away my artificial Christmas trees, ornaments, lights and Christmas village. I can't really put the lights up by myself, and I can't put up the tree(s) or village anymore because I have to keep the house free of tripping hazards. I woke up in a cold sweat a couple of weeks ago because I suddenly realized my crocheted bicycle from 2010 may have been inside the fancy schmancy ornament storage container I donated along with all my non-homemade ornaments.

Thankfully, the bicycle is still hanging in the very same place it was back in 2010. I walk right by it at least ten times a day every single day, but I hadn't noticed it in years. I wasn't able to sleep the rest of the night because the adrenaline flow had been too powerful. So I made awesome use of the time and designed another snowflake.

My thoughts as I was making it were memories of my brother's favorite Journey song. (My favorite Journey song is "The Party's Over.") I got to see Journey live in concert the year the song came out. Still to this day one of my favorite concerts ever.

First words out of Lizard's mouth when he saw this new creation were, "Bicycle gearing!" Mission accomplished!

You may do whatever you'd like with snowflakes you make from this pattern, but you may not sell or republish the pattern. Thanks, and enjoy!

Wash paintbrush and container thoroughly. Allow snowflake to dry at least 24 hours. Remove pins. Gently peel snowflake from wax paper or plastic wrap. Attach 10-inch clear thread to one spoke, weaving in end. Wrap fishing line around tree branch (or tape to ceiling or any overhead surface) and watch snowflake twirl freely whenever you walk by! Snowflake also may be taped to window or tied to doorknob or cabinet handle.
